Failed Smiley

My first attempt at painting George Smiley from Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I stopped it half way through because I didn't think it looked like Gary Oldman very much, if anything it looks more like me wearing glasses. It also wasn't where I wanted to go with it. I had initially planned a sort of semi-caricature painting of Smiley but every sketch resembled Woody Allen. Maybe I should stick to painting dead bunnies....

This is my favourite thing you have done. I think it's excellent; the textures are especially good. Also, the way you have left out some details is intriguing and skillful. It's really quite brilliant, Gary. One thing I might change is the colour of the face, I think it would be better as a warmer skin tone and more subtle. I say continue!
